Cartesian Network

The free-discussion social network on the Blockchain with its own native prediction market and more.

how Cartesian Network was born

The Problem

At Cartesian Network, we aim to solve a growing problem affecting college campuses around the United States, Europe, the Middle East and beyond: the lack of an environment of free expression and representation of thoughts, ideas and beliefs.

The following statistics are based on the 2017 Gallop-Knight Foundation survey of US college students on their views on Freedom of Speech and the First Amendment. This statistic builds on a study conducted earlier in 2016 by the same foundation.

60% increasingly agree that social media can stifle free expression.

61% believe that the climate on their campus prevents some students from expressing their views.

70% would prefer openness to inclusivity on campus even if it includes some offensive speech.

“Give me the liberty to know, to utter, and to argue freely according to conscience, above all liberties.”

― John Milton , Areopagitica

Providing a platform for free debate and expression.

Our Solution

We are creating an anonymous and secure community referendum network through the power of blockchain that enables anyone in the community to ask, share and debate issues that are central to that community freely on our platform. Every time a user poses a question, we poll the opinions on everyone in the community to give a representative view of what they think. The voting happens securely and anonymously, so that every member is able to share their unbiased opinion of the issue at hand.

Monetary Incentive to Participate

Cartesian Network will allocate 20 percent of the total supply of Cartesian Tokens to reward users for the work that they do on the platform through Proof of Thought. Individuals who participate in the Referenda and provide useful evidence and questions to further the discussions will be rewarded in Cartesian Tokens.

ID Verification

Each profile has to be verified with a college email to make sure that the person actually is a part of the community. This would also help us ensure that people cannot abuse the system by making multiple accounts. We will not be storing user data that could disincentivise users from using our platform.

Prediction Market

As a second stage in the network development will come a prediction market for each referendum. We will be using a modified version of the LMSR Automated Market Maker as our model. The prediction market will be built completely on the blockchain, so that anyone in the world who wants to, can choose to participate in predicting the outcome of a certain event.

Anonymity

Users will be able to ask questions and vote on other users' questions anonymously. Our goal is to implement our system on the Blockchain so as to not rely on a centralized database to track users' actions. This way, users' activity on Cartesian Network can be truly anonymous as it would be stored in decentralized way on a distributed ledger.

Our plan for the road ahead

Roadmap

1

Q1 2019

Seed Investment round: Cartesian Network sells between 5 to 15 percent of its equity to finance the start of its official operations - developers are hired and pre-ICO marketing campaigns start.

Q2 2019

The official alpha version of Cartesian Network is released to students communities in a limited number of colleges (starting with Harvard University) for testing, bug bounty, etc.

2

3

Q3 & Q4 2019

The ICO begins with a private sale stage, which lasts 4 weeks, followed by a public token sale, lasting another 8 weeks.

Q1 2020

With the funding from the ICO additional developers are hired, and marketing campaigns in all targeted colleges begin. The first version of the prediction market is released to a limited number of verified users.
